For the first time in the north: the autographers project arrived in Nahariya
"Every person has a story, he is not the shadow of life, he is life itself, he is a world and its fullness," said artist Tova Eshel at the opening ceremony of the Autographers project in Nahariya, which took place in April 2019 at the Beit Lieberman Museum with about 300 people. .
Twenty-five local artists took part in the Nahariya project, from the youngest of them, 19 years old, to the oldest among them, 65 years old, who met with twenty-five witnesses and documented them in writing, photography or painting.
A variety of testimonies made up the panel of witnesses: testimonies of Holocaust survivors who told inspiring survival stories, testimonies of fighters in the underground and the Israeli wars, as well as testimonies of pioneers who built the country and the first city of Nahariya. Among the witnesses: Holocaust survivor from the death march in Budapest, underground activist in Morocco, Palmach fighter, Nahariya's first children, former immigrant public figure from Iran who himself became an aliyah collector and heroes of other moving stories, all residents of the city, part of the wonderful human fabric of residents The city.
On the morning of the opening of the exhibition, the Nahariya Municipal Youth Orchestra conducted by Reuven Malach performed. Yigal Cohen, director general of the Ghetto Fighters' House, greeted the following: For us as the neighboring museum to the city of Nahariya, we consider such an activity a blessed thing. "
The opening date, 12.4, was chosen not by chance. That day, Leah Sinai, one of the photographers, a talented artist and Holocaust survivor, celebrated her 89th birthday. "Last year the photo of Leah and her husband Gershon was displayed in our exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum, but because of the distance they sent their grandchildren to represent them. We promised them we would bring the exhibition to their hometown, and we are glad that a year after the promise was fulfilled. .
The stories and photographs were combined into a book in a special edition, "Leaving the Nahariya Seal," which can be purchased through the association here . All proceeds go to its continued operations.
